    Recovery Care Inn

Physicians and patients who choose the Recovery Care Inn enjoy the confidence that comes with Mills-Peninsula's long-standing experience. They also have the comfort of knowing that in today's high-pressure, high-speed health care world, the Inn provides a quiet environment with plenty of "TLC" and attention to promote recovery and reassure patients and their families.

The Recovery Care Inn accommodates patients for up to 72 hours following elective surgery or other non-acute procedures, whether performed in the on-site surgery center or your doctor's office. Hours are from Monday morning to Saturday morning. The Inn is closed during major holidays.

Located within the Mills Health Center in San Mateo, the third-floor setting offers 12 private rooms, including six spacious suites, each with a comfortable sitting area. Upon request, overnight accommodations may be arranged for a family member or friend. All guest rooms have private sun decks.

    Special Touches
The Recovery Care Inn has been designed and decorated to help erase any traces of an "institutional" atmosphere.

As a Recovery Care Inn guest, you may order individually prepared meals. The Inn also maintains a plentiful supply of snacks and early breakfast items. All meals are included in daily room charges.

You are welcome to bring personal items from home, although we discourage bringing valuables. Depending on your condition, you may wear your own nightclothes, or we can provide them.
Medications from home must be in the original containers and approved by your physician. Check with your nurse before taking any medication brought from home.

Guests and visitors may help themselves to the parking validation stamp at the nurses' desk on the unit. Free valet parking also is available most days.

    Nursing Staff
The Recovery Care Inn is staffed by some of Mills-Peninsula's most experienced registered nurses. Each has the time to treat you in the manner you would expect in a fine hotel, in addition to providing the highest level of professional skill. The nurses all have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

    Pediatric Patients
Parents are encouraged to stay with their child through the hospitalization. Young brothers and sisters may visit as long as a parent is with them. However, the visitors should be free of any signs of infection.

Latex balloons aren't allowed in children's rooms. Mylar balloons are preferable.

    Calling
All patient rooms have telephones. Family and friends may call the Health Center at (650) 696 5400 and ask for the patient's room number.

    Visitors
Visitors are welcome at any time as long as the patient and staff approve. Remember that patients need time to rest and recover. Visitors may use the telephone on the wall next to the entrance to be admitted if the door is locked.

Visitors may have to wait when a patient first arrives in the Recovery Care Inn while the staff provides care.

Visitors may wait in the Inn's adjacent 3rd floor lobby, or return to the first floor to find the Celebrity Cafe, Patio cafe or Robert C. Siegel health library.

For optimal healing and safety, visitors are asked to wash their hands before and after seeing the patient.

    Going Home
When you go home is up to your doctor and you. Some insurance companies limit the amount of time they cover.

You will need a ride home. Ask the nurse if you need help with arrangements. Patients may not drive themselves home. Families and drivers are asked to meet the patient in the Recovery Inn.
